Class - Mosaic Colorwork Cowl

Saturday, November 9th from 10:30am-12:30pm

Have you been wanting to knit a Shift cowl or shawl, or the vivid Glass Houses shawl in the front of our shop? Not sure how to put all of those beautiful multi-colored and solid skeins together to create a knitted masterpiece, or just wanting to use up some of your leftover yarns?  This class may be just what you're looking for!  

You will learn a bit about color theory, the different effects of using solid, tonal, variegated, and marled yarns, knitting the mosaic stitch while maintaining tension, and the simple beauty of mosaic "colorwork." 

At the end of this class, you should have a good handle on how to mosaic knit and will have a good start to the cowl project.

Materials:

Needles: US 5 or 6 needles with a cord length of 16"-24" depending on your preference for smaller circumference knitting.   

Yarn: 2 skeins of DK or sport weight yarn, approximately 200 yards each.  You can use high contrast yarns, or plunge in with color combinations.  Some recommended pairings for the pattern we will be using:

Berrocco Ultra Wool DK (MC) and Schoppel Edition 3 (CC)

Malabrigo Arroyo (MC) and Schoppel Edition 3 (CC)

Notions: stitch markers   

Please secure your materials in advance of the class, as there is a bit of homework so we can jump right in to the mosaic knitting session.  

One session, two hours, suitable for Advanced (or adventurous) Beginners to Intermediate Knitters. 

All students will be given a 15% discount on yarn supplies for the class (with the exception of a few yarn brands).  Please let us know at the time you are checking out that you are taking this class so that we will be sure to give you the discount!

Cancellations can be made for a complete refund 10 days before the date of the class.  Must Love Yarn reserves the right to cancel the class if the minimum number of students is not met, at that time a full refund will be given to any students who have registered.

HOMEWORK for 1st Class:  Using a US 5 or 6 needle, cast on 140 stitches of your Main Color (MC).  Join in the round and knit in garter stitch for approximately 1 inch. 

When knitting in the round garter stitch follows this pattern:

Round 1: Knit

Round 2: Purl 

The remainder of the pattern and the fun mosaic knitting will start in the class, please come ready to start mosaic knitting.
