Yarn 103: Gauge (02/14/2026)

$ 50.00

Date: Saturday, February 14, 10:30 AM - 12:45 PM

Instructor: Elissa Cobb

Continuing the Yarn 101 series—though open to anyone, no prior class required—Yarn 103: Gauge takes a deep dive into one of the most essential aspects of knitting: gauge. Gauge is not a dirty word, and there is no knitting shame if you don’t measure it—but befriending gauge can save you a lot of heartache, frustration, and even money. Elissa Cobb will explain what gauge really means (it’s the number of stitches in 1 inch of knitted fabric after washing), why it matters, and how it impacts the size, fit, and drape of your finished projects.

You’ll explore how fiber content, ply structure, needle size, and stitch patterns all interact to affect gauge, and learn practical techniques for measuring and adjusting it with confidence. We’ll use yarns and swatches from the shop to demonstrate how small changes in tension or yarn choice can dramatically alter your results.

Whether you’re a new maker tired of projects coming out the wrong size or an experienced knitter or crocheter looking to perfect your fit, Yarn 103: Gauge will give you the tools and confidence to take control of your fabric and your finished pieces—without any guilt or stress.
