Advanced Beginner Knitting 103: Small Circumference Knitting
Date: March 1, March 8, and March 22 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Instructor: Maddie (@maddietaylorknits)
Socks and mittens share many similar characteristics and skills, including, knitting in a small circumference, and Kitchener stich. In this combined class, you'll join other advanced beginner to intermediate knitters and choose to make either socks or mittens. You'll also have the opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the skills that other knitters are using in their projects.
Session 1: Cast on your sock or mitten. In this class we'll discuss the different methods of knitting a small circumference in the round (Double pointed needles, magic loop, or 9" circulars) and the pros and cons of each. Sock and mitten knitters will work on the same things! I recommend waiting until during this class to purchase your needles so you know which method you prefer.
Session 2: Turn your heel or split for your thumb. In this class, sock knitters will work through the heel turn in its entirety and mitten knitters will work the thumb gusset and separate the thumb from the hand of the mitten.
Session 3: Knitting the toe of your sock or fingertips of your mitten and grafting the end stitches with Kitchener stitch. During this session, all knitters will again use the same skills!
Prerequisites: You should be comfortable knitting in the round, decreasing and increasing. For those coming to this class directly from knitting 101 and 102, we recommend choosing mittens.
