Knit Your First Pair of Socks - Saturday 4/8, 4/22, and 5/6 10:30-12:30
Socks are a great small project for spring and summer and a perfect portable travel project! In this class, we'll go through all the steps of knitting of knitting a classic sock with a flap and gusset heel and we will also discuss many of the other sock knitting methods.
Session 1: Cast on your sock. In this class we'll discuss the different methods of knitting a small circumference in the round (Double pointed needles, magic loop, or 9" circulars) and the pros and cons of each.
Session 2: Turn your heel. In this class, we'll work through the heel turn in its entirety. For many knitters, this is the most confusing part of a sock, but once you've done it, it's not so hard.
Session 3: knitting the toe and grafting the toe stitches. We'll work together to finish your sock and use the kitcheners stitch to graft the toe.
Prerequisites: You should be comfortable knitting in the round, decreasing and increasing.
Materials:
- Size US 3 needles or size to get gauge, your choice of double points or circulars for magic loop (if you are familiar with magic loop), or 9" circulars (with DPNs for the toes). Feel free to wait until the first class to purchase these once we've talked about the options.
- 1 skein of DK weight yarn (A wool/nylon blend is recommended for sock knitting as it gives the best mixture of stretch and durability.)
